Session 7 – Fight Club

Eve’s fixer, Erich, lets her know a bit more about this “Core Dump” hacker on Mercury. He lives in a city called Az-Zukhruf in the Arab-controlled area of Mercury. He has been retired for about a year and a half and is now “legit.” Erich says that though he is retired, he’s taken a few jobs since his retirement (ones that he won’t get shot at for).

As we are approaching Mercury, we are notified by Bengal that the spam levels dropped off for about 4 hours then resumed, and now are no longer coming through ClimaStat’s servers.

We arrive at Mercury, and Eve contacts Core Dump on the public access board. She asks for help with some computers and he seems shocked that she found him. He explains that he is no longer in the biz and generally doesn’t do computer work anymore.

Eve mentions that she was referred by Erich and Core Dump says that he could probably do it since Erich is an old friend. He invites Eve to come to a club with him and then go back to his place afterwards to take a look at things. Eve asks if he is still talking about computers.

Raptor inquires about how legal it is to carry weapons openly on Mercury, and finds that firearms especially are restricted almost everywhere. He settles on bringing only 4 guns and 2 knives.

We land and immediately go to a high-end clothing store. Eve negotiates the price on three armored suits for Cam, Stitch and Raptor. They are reluctant to buy and wear them, but Eve’s wiles win them over.

We go to the bar, a place called 39 Thieves, and as we come into the entrance area there are several security guards checking everyone for weapons. As they scan Raptor, he looks very agitated and does not want to give up his guns. He warns the guy that he should take his hands off of him. The guy says that he is just doing his job.

Eve sees that Raptor is about to go crazy and slaps two tranq patches on his neck. He passes out almost immediately. Cam and Stitch catch him with much difficulty so he doesn’t fall to the floor. Stitch explains that he has had too much to drink. The security guard says that he can’t come into the bar if he’s passed out. Eve explains in low tones to the guards that she tranqued him so he wouldn’t go nuts, but he should be okay now. The guards let him come in.

We come into the bar and Eve meets with Core Dump, whose real name is Yusuf. She gives him a kiss in greeting and says that the club looks nice. He says that it will get more exciting later as the place gets busier.

Eve spends most of the night socializing with Yusuf and his crew. Raptor wakes up later and demands to know what happened. Eve says that he was about to get everyone in a lot of trouble and had to tranq him. He asks what happened to his gun and Stitch says (lying) that the gun fell out of his holster when he passed out and he was holding on to it for him.

Raptor goes back and orders something to eat, but finds that everything is too dainty and upscale for him to enjoy. We decide that we should go since none of us really fit in except for Eve. She says that she is fine on her own and will accompany Yusuf to his place. Raptor asks her if she will be okay (if she has guns) and she says that she has 2.

The party, less Eve, comes back to the ship. Raptor complains that he hasn’t been in a fight recently. Cam, intrigued, goes on the internet and finds if there is an underground fight club in the area that Raptor could participate in. In a surprising stroke of luck he finds one in the area and convinces Raptor to go. Stitch goes with them.

They arrive at the fight club and Raptor signs up to fight. They put him in the super-heavyweight class and he is to fight against a big looking dude. The fight lasts for several minutes as it seems that they cannot hurt one another. After a while, the other guy is being worn down and finally puts up his hands and gives up. His friends are at the fence yelling for him to be taken out of the ring, while Cam is yelling for Raptor to kill him. The man tries to get away but Raptor takes him down from behind.

The crowd goes nuts, and start chanting “Garignak! Garignak!” They bring out another guy with shiny dermal plating and a girl on each arm. He is pointing to the crowd and smiling. The announcer asks Raptor if he will fight again, and he agrees. He manages to wound the guy, which surprises him, but soon Garignak overpowers him and lays him out. Cam and Stitch bring him back to the ship and heal him up, as he is near death.

The next morning Eve calls us and asks to know what is going on. We explain about the fight club, and don’t ask for any details about her night. She asks for Cam to bring the laptops to Yusuf and he comes down in a short while. Raptor goes somewhere to get a steak, and wanders aimlessly afterwards. Stitch follows him to make sure he doesn’t get into too much trouble.

Yusuf begins working on the laptops and Eve and Cam go to get groceries. Eve buys a side of beef and Cam gets a bushel of corn. They take them to cold storage on the ship. When they return, Yusuf has cracked the first server and says that he has recovered some company emails and financial information, but nothing incriminating yet.

Raptor eventually stumbles upon a sporting goods store and purchases a paintball gun. He does not buy any paintballs.

Everyone reconvenes for dinner with Eve and Yusuf. Unfortunately Raptor is dissatisfied at the cuisine here and makes a scene, then storms out. Eve is embarrased at the scene but Yusuf seems not to care. Stitch goes to follow him but Raptor says that he is going to kill him if he tries.

Several days pass as Yusuf is working on cracking the servers. He calls Eve one day while we are out and says that he has news. We meet up with him and he says that he recognized a bit of code on one of the boxes. He said that he was working with a guy a long time ago who created the “Shitstorm 3100” which is a terrible spamming software. The guy went by the name “Freewire” and was a notorious hacker. He actually spent some time on Mercury, addicted to BTLs, before he went back to Pallas, and that’s where he probably still is. The program itself took him at least 2 years to write. It is rumored that he sold the code to a chick named Overclock, who Yusuf doesn’t know much about. The code, unfortunately, would take months to pick apart and longer to do anything to stop it.

Meanwhile, Raptor books passage on a shuttle to go to the other side of the planet where he will be more comfortable. Unfortunately they don’t hire there, and he needs to go back. He does so and gets a job as a “laborer.”

Session 6 – Spam

On Pallas in St. Gregory, we approach the corporation, ClimaStat, that is the source of the spam messages. We come into the habitat dome and land, then take the hummer to the building.

We decide the best way to figure out going on is to surveil the building. Stitch breaks into one of the buildings nearby with a simple lockpick device. He sees cameras and other security measures, as well as deliveries of office items and such.

Eve is able to lift an ID badge off of a departing IT woman, which she herself could use to gain access to the building. Next she “accidentally” runs into a nerdy-looking analyst, calling him “Johnny” and kissing him madly. He protests, saying that his name’s not Johnny, but doesn’t notice that she’s lifted his badge as well.

Eve and Cam take the disguise of the two people whose IDs were stolen, and gain access to the building. Everyone else stays in the van for the time being. They walk through the building and see that the back entrance has a simple alarm attached to it. On the way back towards the security desk Eve uses her stun baton on one of the security cameras. Quickly Cam disables the lock and alarm on the door and leaves a wire so the others can get in if they need to.

The camera comes back online so Cam and Eve move off. She goes into the restroom and asks Stitch where he thinks the servers are. He thinks they may be in the basement. She comes out of the restroom and tells Cam that they should head to the basement.

Suddenly Raptor and Stitch are attacked by two guards; obviously they have been spotted. Raptor is tasered, but Stitch snipes and kills both of them. Raptor takes off to draw any further attention away from the building.

Cam and Eve continue to the server room in the basement. Cam is not able to log into the system and is marked as a hacker, so he logs out. They decide that they should steal the servers instead and do analysis on them later. Cam grabs a couple of the laptop-sized servers and suddenly they hear footsteps. An IT guy comes in and asks what is going on. Eve strikes him with her stun baton and he goes down. Cam grabs the servers and they find something to put them in, then quickly leave.

On the way up the stairs, a guard appears and demands that they give up the servers they stole. Cam and Eve put the servers down but draw their weapons and fire on the guard. He goes down, and Eve slices his throat. They grab the servers and charge out of the building. The truck takes them away and we seem to have made a clean getaway.

We get back to the ship and decide not to stick around. We leave Pallas immediately.

Eve contacts her fixer, who points her in the direction of a hacker who lives on Mercury. Apparently he will be able to help us out with the servers. We decide to travel to Mercury; the trip takes a day.

On the way, Eve checks the newsfeeds and she sees that the military on Ganymede has released more information about the people who broke into their installation. A very clear photo of Eve (disguised in black) and a fairly clear picture of Raptor were released, as well as the name of Chelle though they have not caught her yet. They believe that our group is still in the Jupiter system, which is obviously erroneous.

Session 5 – Money Train

Arriving in Ganymede orbit, we hear reported through the news feed about the raid we just perpetrated, and there is fuzzy surveillance video or a few of us in action. The anchor says that it is believed a “yet unnamed” resistance group was responsible for the crime, though no one has yet stepped forward.

The group tries to look for a place that we can stay that is under the radar. Eve calls one of her doctors to see if they can get her official papers for the delivery of the cadavers we are carrying in the hold.

Cam starts working on the truck; weapons and equipment are distributed to the party and it is decided what we will sell and what we’ll keep.

Eve’s doctor responds and says that she is on Earth’s moon. She will have the paperwork drawn up for us by the time we reach there.

Stitch contacts an armorer and says that he will meet us on an uninhabited asteroid to buy the equipment we have for sale. It will take us roughly 30 hours to get there.

We arrive safely at the asteroid and meet Stitch’s contact. We negotiate 20,000 nuyen for all of the merchandise, and after a few minutes trade everything over. The money is split between the party members and we soon depart for the Earth’s moon.

The doctor’s location is near the Lunar Syndicate. We land and load the bodies up for transit. Stitch says that he is going to stay with the ship. The rest of the party meets up with the doc and she takes a look at the bodies we have brought. She agrees to pay about 50,000 for all of the bodies and cyberware. This is again divided between the party members.

Cam shops around for a new core system for the ship so we can mask our identity if we wish. He finds a place that has one for a Firefly-class vessel that is in pretty good shape, but settles on a cheaper one that needs some refurbishing. He packs it all in the truck and takes it back to the ship. He estimates that it will take him 10 days or so to integrate the second system.

Eve finds out that there is demand for lumber runs from the Earth to Vesta. The pay is only 4,000 nuyen but it is honest money. We decide to do the run, and also get a lead on another job that may require personnel with varied skills.

In a bar on Vesta we meet Bengal, a businessman with Asian features and feline biomods, the most obvious being his cat-eyes. His crew is with him, decked out with mods and tech. He explains that there is a hacker on Pallas that is sending out spam messages which is sucking up bandwidth and causing a lot of trouble. We are to shut him down anyway possible, since the local authorities have been unsuccessful. They have however traced him to a specific corporation, ClimaStat Inc. on Pallas. Software analysts have found that some of the code used in these attacks was used by a hacker Pedro “Freewire” Chin in 2414, six years ago. Chin was charged but never convicted. Apparently Freewire has been rumored to be on Pallas, or any number of other places, or that he’s retired or dead. Bengal offers 45,000 nuyen for the job plus expenses. We agree, but ask for chameleon suits for everyone in the party as well. Bengal agrees.

Bengal further explains that he does not have any “ins” with ClimaStat so we are on our own there, we will have to either break or hack in. He says that the confirmation that the job is done is that the traffic he is causing ceases. That is really all these people care about; they don’t necessarily want to see his dead body or see him arrested.

We do some shopping for equipment; Cam purchases a sequencer and some other devices.

We will be doing another legal run of ore shipment to Eros and then will continue on to Pallas with another shipment before the big job.

Session 4 – Breaking & Entering

Eve climbs up to the guard tower at the entrance and shocks the guard inside. He had already been severely damaged by Raptor’s sniper fire and so he does not offer much resistance.

Raptor sees through his scope a body fall from the sniper’s tower near the rear of the base, he has apparently been killed by someone else. He takes aim and fires at another one of the base’s guards.

Graves is revived from his wounds by the serum but still looks pretty bad. He gets up and accompanies Cam to a nearby security door. Cam tries to get inside but is unable to.

Eve comes into the complex and tries to hijack a vehicle but is unable to.

Aparna comes over our com system and says that another operative working with the resistance is in the base and has already downed a couple of the hostiles.

Cam is able to break into the building and Raptor jumps down to head into the building. Cam and Graves break off towards the vehicle that Eve tried to steal, and run into Stitch. “Hey, you’re that guy!” says Cam. “Uh, yeah. Let’s go get that car,” he replies.

Raptor calls out that there are lots of hostiles inside the main building. Cam lets Stitch know that they need help in the building and he nods, turning back to assist. Raptor goes into the building and lets loose with grenades and weapons fire. Eve and Stitch assist him and soon all of the hostiles are down. They start raiding the goods there.

Cam hotwires the truck and drives it over to the main building. He swaps with Eve for the forklift and starts loading boxes onto the truck. There are 3 crates of armored vests, one crate with 4 Ares Alpha assault rifles, 4 crates with normal ammunition and 1 with APDS rounds. Also one suit of full body armor is found, several with rations and food, and 2 crates with medkit supplies. Also a crate with 2 Walther MA-2100 sniper rifles, a crate of micro-grenades and a crate of 20 Ares Predator IVs is found. We also pile 13 bodies of the enemies killed so we can harvest their cyberware.

We load all of the crates except for the food & water on to the truck. Raptor figures that we will have four minutes left over until reinforcements come since their response time is about 30 minutes. He also realizes that every item is RFID tagged which would allow them to be tracked by the enemy. Stitch says that he has a jammer that could prevent the signals from being tracked.

The truck leaves the base and we do not run into any reinforcements. Aparna says that Chelle will meet us in an ATV on the side of a road. She joins us and says that she has several RFID tag erasers. We keep driving while she and Stitch start erasing the tags.

Raptor asks if he should keep a gun on Stitch in case he tries something; Eve says that she and Stitch go way back and he’s definitely on the up-and-up.

Eve comes up with a list that we will give to the Resistance. Chelle relays that info to Aparna and after a moment she agrees to take what we’ve offered. They will meet us at a local scrapyard for payment.

Shortly thereafter we meet with them and payment is transferred (2,200 nuyen per person) and we give them the promised goods. They thank us and say that this will help their cause immensely.

We leave the planet and begin to count and stow our goods. We take stock of the cyberware in the bodies that were stolen for future harvesting.

Later Raptor hears that Sakura has the weapon permits ready.

Eve formally introduces Stitch to the rest of the group and asks what he has been doing. He replies that he has just been taking jobs, trying to make ends meet. Eve says that our group has been pretty successful so far and says that we could certainly use one more. She asks the rest of the group what they think and they seem okay with Stitch joining. He agrees and it is official.

We decide to keep the truck but to refit and paint it so it can’t be tracked back to the military base.

Session 3 – Breaking & Entering

We stay in the bar for a long while and drink and eat. Eve drinks quite heavily, and though the others warn her to slow down, she says that she is in control.

After a few hours and quite a lot of drink, the dinner crowd filters out of the place and the bar crowd comes in. Aparna comes back and finally it’s time to get down to business. She tells us that there is an outdoor rental business in town that is a part of the resistance, and we should meet there to discuss our plans further.

We leave the bar for the rental business, and Eve is having a lot of trouble walking. Raptor asks Cam to help her out (calling him “Tool” in the process). Cam begrudgingly accepts and walks along with her.

When we arrive, Raptor finds a stim-patch and puts it on Eve to sober her up. We meet a woman at the door and explain who we are. She lets all of us, except Eve, in to an adjacent room with several more people and we begin introductions.

[Log censored by moderator]

Negotiations go extremely poorly until Eve and Aparna return, whereupon Eve has changed her appearance. She introduces herself as Eve here instead of Natasha, and Aparna senses that she has lied. Aparna confronts Eve about it but Eve says that she would do well to not delve into our group’s past — we are just here to do the job and get paid. Aparna asks if they mean to harm any of the resistance members, and Eve says no. Aparna says that she believes her.

Eve comes in to the main room and meets the man, Randolph, who explains about the location that we will be expected to gain entry to. He covers where the plant is, what they think goes on in each building, what their defenses are and where the possible entry points are. We decide that we will go the next evening and Raptor will provide a distraction while the rest of us get into the complex.

The next evening, we take our positions and signal the resistance members to attack. They detonate an explosion on the base and Raptor, from a nearby ledge, starts firing at the guards. Cam is hoisted up at the wall and begins clipping at the razor wire. Cam is suddenly shot by one of the guards in the tower, but he seems okay and continues to clip through. Soon he is able to get all the way through and swings over the wall. Graves follows him into the base but Eve stays on the wall. She takes a shot at one of the advancing guards and Graves stabs him. A second one is sniped neatly by Raptor. Graves is suddenly shot by the sniper and falls; Cam drags him behind the building and decides on his next move.

Session 2 – Derelict

Raptor and Cam rush back to the ship as they heard about the other ship’s approach. Eve tells them that the ship will be on top of them in about 2 minutes.

The ship makes a comminique with the Redemption, and they identify themselves as Rhea Saturn Border Control Authority. They ask what we are doing. Eve says that we are on a salvage mission and are registered to do so. The man, a military looking fellow in a combat helmet, says that he wishes to dock with us and check our papers. Eve agrees.

Eve yells at the others to hurry back to the ship, and presently Raptor and Cam float over onto the ship. Cam rushes to the bridge and Raptor takes up position on the scaffolding of the cargo bay. Eve is trying desperately to hide the safe in one of the hidden compartments. She turns off the gravity to assist her in lifting it.

The Border Patrol ship attempts to communicate with us to board, but Eve is not ready. She makes up an excuse and Cam shoves the bridge comm microphone into the speaker, causing a feedback loop.

Eve gets the cargo hidden and turns the gravity back on. She lets the Border Patrol men in, and Raptor readies his elephant rifle. They come in and ask for Eve’s papers. She said that she doesn’t have any, since we came across the ship and figured that we could get the license later. The Border Patrolman says that it doesn’t work that way, and they’d like to take a look around. Eve puts her arm in his and leads him around the ship. He seems satisfied with everything and lets us go.

We decide to go to Rhea and get a real salvage license, since they are not that expensive. The trip takes 2 hours.

We arrive at a docking station and take the Eden shuttle down to the moon. It only takes us a few minutes to get down, and Eve begins the process to get a salvage license. The person at the desk says that they need a registered SIN, the ship’s license numbers, and the background check takes about two weeks. Eve asks if this timeline can be reduced, but the shortest time is about a week.

Eve decides that it isn’t worth it and we return to the ship. Cam sets course for Hygaea and they start the return trip. Again it takes 2 days, and we return to the spaceport we had originally met the buyer at. Eve makes a communication with the buyer and he agrees to meet us.

As we approach the station the docking crew tells us that they are doing maintenance, and we need to divert to docking bay 17. We agree, and begin to dock. Suddenly we get a comm from the buyer, and he sounds awfully scared. He tells us that we must have been set up, because there are at least 8 heavily armed men in the docking bay waiting for us to exit. We tell him that we are leaving and will meet him somewhere else. He says that there is another base across town that we could go to.

We start traveling to the other station, and see that there is a ground vehicle tracking us. We decide to split up, Cam piloting the Redemption, Graves piloting Eden, and Eve and Raptor on Hades with the loot. Cam peels off and the ground vehicle seems to be tracking him. Eve leaves slowly as to not draw attention and goes to the other base.

Eve and Raptor meet the buyer and make the trade. He says that we have to go back to his office to get the medical supplies, but he gives Eve the certified credstick with the cash.

Cam is continuing to Graves sees that they have turned around and are returning to the original spaceport, and then double back north towards the second station. Graves goes back to the Redemption and docks.

Raptor goes with Red his car and Eve takes Hades back towards Redemption. She sees that the vehicle, a gray van, is now coming towards Red’s car. Raptor tells them that they need to be prepared for battle, and the men with Red pull their weapons (which are unfortunately small arms). Raptor tells the driver to ram the van. He tries, but the driver of the van swerves out of the way. They turn around to pursue the truck.

Raptor opens the back door of the truck and opens fire on the van. Raptor takes several shots at the driver of the van and takes him out, and then turns his attention to the van’s tires. One of the front tires blows out and the van hits a nearby building. Raptor climbs back into the truck and they take off from the scene.

The truck arrives at Red’s building and they drop off the safe. Eve arrives there as well, and Red gives her a case of more medical supplies and another package. There are two vials in the second case, and explains that it is a rapid immune response serum that is not on the market yet but is not dangerous, it is just not cost-effective yet. It is somewhat of a “gunshot wound vaccine.” A 10cc dose will stay in your system for about 3 hours and activates when your skin is cut and you get a platelet response and will heal the wound right away. He has saved 210 cc’s of it and it needs to be injected directly into the blood.

We thank Red and load up into the ship. Before leaving, we purchase two more space suits for the ship and some parts that equal out to 2,000 nuyen. As we are lifting off, Raptor sees that he has a message. Eve splits up the money between us and takes some for maintenance of the ship.

Later Raptor asks Eve if she has the next job lined up. She says no, so he says he may have something that would be worth our time on Ganymede. Everyone agrees to go along.

As we are traveling, Eve receives a communique that a legitimate job is available. A shipment of construction materials from a Smartglass company from Miyahon on Hygiea needs to be shipped to Phrygia on Ganymede. We decide to take the job because it is right on our way. We are paid 5,000 nuyen up front for the job.

It takes almost two days to reach Ganymede, and the glass delivery goes smoothly. We make a quick stop to purchase an Auto-pilot Autosoft for the ship and continue on to Bryce Ridge to meet up with Raptor’s contact.

The town is very small; all of us walk into the main bar. We order drinks and food; Eve is dressed as a Russian woman. Eve asks around about the woman Raptor is looking for, and the bartender says that she works here as a waitress. He says that she will be off work in a short while if we want to speak with her.

Later we meet her as she is getting off of work. Eve says that her mutual friend told us that they needed extra help. Raptor seems very uncomfortable with the pretenses and relaxes when she begins to speak more frankly.

The waitress tells us that her resistance cell against the Bloc government is somewhat outgunned and she needs us to help raid a local depot for weapons to help out their cause. It is lower security but may be difficult to get into because of the hilly terrain. The Bloc has a commander at this base and a staff including guards. Raptor suggests that we take out their leader to weaken the command structure. We discuss other options and ask if the guards visit any local bars if we could steal any of their security cards. Raptor also asks for the schematics of the building.

We ask about payment, and she says that she doesn’t have much, but she could afford 2,200 nuyen a person and free room and board for us. We also could take a cut of what we get from the facility in the form of weapons and equipment.

Session 1 – Derelict

We are each approached separately by a corporate liaison who wants to hire us for a job on a ship. They agree that our payment will be at least a few thousand nuyen per month and it will be work worth our while. We all agree to meet near the spaceport docks of Vespa at a Firefly-class ship and a representative named Eve.

One by one we show up. A twitchy, large man with combat boots and scaly-printed dermal plating introduces himself as Raptor; a tall man in a nice outfit holding a cigarette says that people call him Graves; and a skinny, dirty fellow with spiked hair and welding goggles says that his name is Cameron. They meet Eve, an attractive Asian woman who seems a bit disappointed with them. She leads them into the ship and shows them around. She asks Cameron if that is his real name, and he says yes. She says it’s a terrible idea to use your real name and that she will call him “Tool” from now on. He ignores her and goes to get his tools.

Raptor and Cameron both work to get their equipment on board. Raptor sets up racks for his firearms and ammunition and Cameron sets up his workshop near the engine room.

Eve is notified by a corp contact that the first job is a salvage operation on Hygiea concerning a man named Red Selwart who is in the bio-med industry. Red is offering 15,000 plus expenses for the retrieval of the items that he is looking for.

The group gathers in the mess (except for Cam, who is tinkering around in the engine room) and Eve announces what the job will be. Everyone agrees that the Hygiea mission will be sufficient. Eve calls down to the engine room that we must leave, and Cam says that he is currently taking the engine apart for maintenance. Frustrated, Eve tells him to put it back together so we can leave.

Cam puts the engine back together in about an hour, and goes up to the cockpit to set up the flight plan. The ship takes off and Cam announces that it will be about a day until we reach Hygiea. He returns to his workshop to get things set up and everyone else takes the next day to get settled in.

Eve searches for any info on Red and his corp. Red reports to the Vice President of the R&D branch for New Age Bio-medical. It is a smaller company compared to most bio groups, and they have a lot of contracts with privately-run medical facilities. They apparently have no dealings with any of the big corps on Earth.

The next day we land on Hygiea in the city of Miyahon. As we are preparing to disembark, Raptor sees Eve and she looks completely different than before. She has blonde hair, a larger bust and different clothing. He pulls a gun on her and demands to know who she is. She says “You know me as Eve.” He looks confused and puts his gun down.

Eve contacts Red and says that she is ready to meet. They agree on a place, and Red asks how many people will be coming with her. Eve asks us if there’s anything specific we’d like to negotiate for; Raptor says that the ship is sorely lacking on supplies and Cam agrees, saying that we need parts for the engine and the medical bay is pretty bare. Eve says that she will see what she can do.

Red explains that he had a shipment going from Rhea to Hygiea and the ship (a Bumblebee class) was hit by a stray asteroid and lost hull integrity. There is a safe in the lower deck with highly classified medical prototypes. He needs to hire us to retrieve the prototypes off the books so the company’s competitors are not aware of the problem. He says that he will pay us 15,000 nuyen and we are free to take anything off the ship that we need as well. Eve negotiates for 20,000 nuyen as well as some medical equipment that they may have to stock our medbay and two more space suits. Red says that he could give us 16,000 as well as some medkits, a med-dock and the space suits, and Eve agrees.

Red gives Eve the key codes to deactivate the ship’s auto defenses and the codes to access the safe. He also gives us a schematic of the ship and points out where the hull breach may have occurred. He says that the ship is in the gravity well of Saturn and may have been spotted by scavengers already. The ship is not important to him, just the contents of the safe.

One of Red’s security guards meets us at the ship with a crate that has the medkit, 6 sets of supplies, 2 bio-monitors, 20 trauma patches and two space suits.

We leave for Saturn and reach orbit in 2 days, seeing the derelict ship where it should be. We arrive and halt the ship just outside of weapons range of the derelict and try to send the disarm code. Cam quickly realizes that the defense systems are offline and have been so for two days. Someone else must have been here and raided the ship already.

Eve does a scan of the immediate area and does not detect any other ships. Also a scan of the Bumblebee doesn’t reveal any life signs or movement.

Cam elects to stay on the bridge; the others suit up and jump out of the airlock to the other ship. They search around and find the access hatch to the lower deck. The safe is sunken into the floor. They scan the area for any traps or explosives, but don’t find anything out of the ordinairy. However there are scuff marks by the safe as if someone was attempting to pry it out.

Eve enters the open code and the clamps begin to open, but one sticks and does not retract completely. Raptor decides to use plastic explosives to blow open the shroud, and sets charges on either side. After the explosion, it is not completely blown off. He tries another two charges and the panel is destroyed. The chest is dragged off of the ship through the hull breach and to the cargo hold.

The three return to the ship and start looking for salvage. Most of the ship has already been rifled through and anything of value stolen, but Cam recognizes through Eve’s eye feed that the parts on the Bumblebee’s engine could be usable towards 4,500 nuyen or so of maintenance.

As Raptor is checking the cockpit, Cam goes to the engine room and starts disassembling the spare parts for our ship’s engine. Just as he’s starting, Eve announces that another ship is approaching us on sensors. Raptor, Cam and Graves make for the ship before the interlopers arrive.

Session 41 – The Tomb of Antinius

The next morning, we leave for the mountains and Antinius’ tomb. It takes us 4 days to make the trek using Sambuto’s tree portal magic. As we come out of the last portal, ahead of us we see the largest mountain we have ever seen.

Suddenly Krodmich has a strange tingling sensation at the base of his skull. He asks Sambuto about the history of this place, and he says that it is strong with Berethenu’s magic.

We ascend and approach a cavern mouth that is covered in mist. Sambuto says that it is a whole day’s journey to the tomb from here. We take it slow as to not lose our footing as we go deeper into the mountain.

Finally we come upon a steep decline of about fifty feet. Sarthisis uses his magic to make us float gently down the slope. As we continue, the ground flattens out. Now Krodmich can’t even concentrate because the buzzing in his head is so overwhelming.

Suddenly we see a blue light ahead of us. Two torches are mounted on the wall in the cavern ahead, on either side of a huge stone door. There are strange writings on the door, and even Nadia with her translating orb cannot decipher it.

Eilenos, however, can make out the words. They are as follows:

Aliga checks the torches and they seem not to be trapped. He checks the door and it opens a crack. Krodmich is now in a ball on the floor in pain due to the buzzing.

Eilenos gives him a root which does not seem to help. We decide to take him into the room, and suddenly the buzzing is replaced with a feeling of absolute contentment. As we come into the room we see that the walls are made up of the same blue stone as the door. On the floor there are huge crystals coming out of the floor in a huge tusk-like formation. In the center there is a huge casket made out of stone.

We see at the foot of the casket a stone chest made out of the same material. Sambuto motions to Eilenos to open it. He finds a shield and helmet in the box, and goes to put them on. As he does this a blue swirl of mist coalesces above him and it forms an old, but powerfully built man. He speaks, and welcomes all of us in turn. He says that we may ask any questions.

Eilenos asks how he may rid himself of the evil that is constantly tempting him. Antinius says that he must look inside himself if he must do this.

Sarthisis asks what they must do to win the war against Necros and Grom. Antinius says that Skraag is a stronghold for Grom, and that his is likely trying to escape Mulkra by using the power of his followers. Freeing Skraag would be a huge strike against the evil in the world.

Eilenos asks if he may use the gifts Antinius has given him, and Antinius says that he may, but not until the evil has been purged from him. Suddenly all around Eilenos goes dark, and his demon sword and the blade of Berethenu leap out of their scabbards and stick into the ground. Above Berethenu’s sword he sees Antinius’ visage and it tells him that he must choose. Necros appears above the demon sword, cackling. He says that Antinius is a liar and he cannot offer everything that he says. Antinius says that there is some truth to what Necros says, and Eilenos can freely make his choice as he wishes.

Eilenos says that he has worked very hard to cleanse himself from the evil that once consumed him, and though he has had a difficult path he will not betray the faith that Josephus and his friends have put in him. He picks up Berethenu’s Will and holds it aloft.

Having chosen, the demon sword comes out of the ground and Eilenos sees a shadowy version of himself form next to it. He seems to have all the powers of the necromancer as if Eilenos had been training in the dark arts rather than becoming a Berethenu Knight. He moves to attack Eilenos with his unholy powers.

The others, including Sambuto, attempt to help in defending against it, but there seems to be a magical sphere around the two of them that they cannot penetrate. For a protracted battle they fight each other, and finally the real Eilenos is able to defeat him and he disappears in a puff of smoke.

Antinius says that Eilenos has passed the trial and he is now the true heir, and wishes him good luck on his quest. He then turns to Krodmich and gives him a special magical axe made out of stone, which is supposedly the first axe forged by Dwarves. He said that with this, Krodmich must help Eilenos on his quest since he will certainly need help along the way.

With that, Antinius says that he is weary and must retire. His ghost fades from view.

Session 40 – The Isle of Nyambe

As we are regrouping from the last skirmish with the necromancer, we notice that our distraction of all the attacking kobolds will not last long. We exit the necromancer’s tent and quickly make our way towards the leader’s tent.

Sarthisis takes the most direct route by running directly through the barracks tent nearby. He lights his fire spells and starts burning everything around him. An ork tries to take a swipe at him but misses. The rest of us attack the orks around the tent.

We continue on to the leader’s tent and kill all of the orcs in one of them. Sarthisis burns two orcs in another tent to death. We venture into the main part of the tent and we see Sambuto and Josephus surrounded by a bunch of dead orcs. We look around the area for treasure, and find a couple of chests. Aliga tries to open one of them and is struck by a trap — a poison needle. Krodmich disables a trap on the second chest and opens that one and the third. We find see hundreds of gold coins. Some of us grab coins on the way out.

Josephus and Sambuto say that they made their way in the other direction and they have not seen the orc captain. Just then we hear bellowing from outside the tent saying “Who invades my village?!!” We run out and see hundreds of orcs surrounding one huge orc, apparently the leader. Sambuto says that one of us will challenge him, and he accepts. Sambuto says to Eilenos that this would be a good test for him to see if he is worthy of Antinius’ legacy.

Eilenos is not sure about this, as his shield is destroyed and his armor badly damaged, but he decides that if he must die, this would be a good time. He steps forward and yells “I challenge you!!” in a loud voice. As he does, Sambuto presses a weapon into Eilenos’ hands and he realizes that it is the famous warhammer that he has been seeking, Grom’s Bane. It glows with otherworldly light.

He goes into the ring and they begin fighting. The orc’s huge blade glows orange and Eilenos notices that it bears runes of pain. Eilenos strikes him several times with Grom’s Bane but takes a few hits from the orc’s sword. Luckily the orc loses his grip and the sword goes spinning away. Eilenos uses this opportunity to strike him hard with the hammer and his sword, and though the orc pulls out a long knife, Eilenos finally defeats him.

Standing on top of his fallen foe, Eilenos holds his blade aloft and it glows white due to the presence of Grom’s followers. The orcs shy from its light. He calls to them that they will leave this place and never return. They stand still for a moment until one of them says “We must listen to the chieftan!” They go back to their tents, peacefully.

Sambuto congratulates Eilenos on his victory and says that he now believes that he is truly destined to be the champion of Berethenu. Sambuto says that he will keep his word and lead the party to Tabu-taabu Mountain, the resting place of Antinius himself and the location of the final piece of Antinius’ Trappings.

On the dead chieftan is found his sword and long knife, which Porodo takes for himself. He also takes the chieftan’s ring, realizes that it is a more powerful version of the magical ring he already has which increases his defense. He gives his old ring to Eilenos.

We see that there are human slaves being held here, and Eilenos orders that they be freed. The orcs comply, and the slaves go off to their nearby village.

It is decided that the party must rest, and rather than staying here we have Sambuto take us to a nearby group of trees and create a portal to a safer area in a large tree grove. Here we sleep and Krodmich and Nadia repair everyone’s damaged armor.

Session 39 – The Isle of Nyambe

In the Jungle Protector’s cave, we have been mended and he offers us a stew that smells of bananas. A few of us try some and it tastes very good.

He introduces himself in exceptionally good common as Sambuto. He says that we are obviously not from this area, and asks what we are doing here. Eilenos says that a grave dangers faces all of Juravia, and we require his help. He says that he knows of this danger, as strange beasts have been seen here, orcs in particular. Sambuto adds that he knows of Antinius and recognizes the armor that Eilenos wears. He is skeptical, however, if Eilenos is up to the challenge. Eilenos says that he is Antinius’ heir.

Sambuto says that he knew Antinius many years ago. (The group remembers that Antinius was alive thousands of years ago.) He says that he fought with him and that he was the finest man he had ever known. He died of old age, and his remains have been interred beneath the largest mountain peak in all of Nyambe.

The Jungle Protector says that in order to prove Eilenos is worthy, he must travel to Sueta, a nearby village to the south, which has a large group of 1-2,000 orcs that has set up camp nearby. They have killed random villagers and kidnapped a few people, but he cannot discern their true purpose yet. We must find out a way to root them out. They are led by a fearful orc named Ruck, and also his right-hand man, a necromancer. If we kill the two of them, the rest of the orcs will no longer be organized and flee. We must go there quickly.

Sambuto gives each of us a head-rest to sleep on instead of a pillow. These are enchanted and will cause the user to get 8 hours of sleep in only 4 hours. They also have a small drawer on the side of them, and can hold up to 50 coins or a small item.

Eilenos thanks him for the gift and asks if he can hazard a question. “What manner of a man,” he says, “lives for many thousands of years and looks no older than our ranger friend over there?” The Jungle Protector says “Truthfully, I do not know why I am still here.” Eilenos accepts his answer and looks to Josephus to see what his reaction is. He looks humorous and secretive as usual.

Sambuto gives us some banana flavored beer and Krodmich starts fixing the group’s armor. Soon afterward we bed down and Sarthisis asks if we need to stand watch. Sambuto says that no one comes near here, so no watch is necessary. We sleep for 4 hours and wake up very refreshed, as if we had slept a whole night. Food and gear is packed up and we head towards the village.

A few hours later, as we are traveling through the jungle, Sambuto stops and starts chanting towards two trees. A wall of green swirling energy appears and he walks through it. We follow him and have a tingling sensation, and soon come out into a similar forest. He leads us out of the group of trees and we travel further. Later he does the same thing, chanting in front of two trees and taking us through another portal. In the area we come out to, we see a group of orc-monkeys similar to the ones we were attacked by. They come within a few hundred yards and see Sambuto, and turn away.

The entire journey takes us only 4 days of riding the camels (with Sambuto walking) and going through these portals to go the 600 miles of our journey, which we had previously estimated would take about 30. It is more hilly near here, and he takes us on top of a ridge and asks us to move stealthily. We look down and see a large group of tents. In the front we see a stockade with people held prisoner, and to the right is a fenced are with horses. A large three-story tent is on the left and probably holds the necromancer and his men. The huge tent in the rear is most likely where the leader resides. Several green tents are guard posts. The large tent to the rear-right is the mess hall, and several gray long tents are either barracks or host the women and children.

Sambuto says that he has one other ally in this fight — he can summon a small group of kobolds that will assist him if necessary. He calls and two meerkats appear. He speaks to them and they scamper off. Sambuto says that he tasked the meerkats with summoning the kobolds for him. About an hour later, a band of lizard-like kobolds appear. They have spears and bows.

Our group sneaks down toward the encampment near the necromancer’s tent. We signal the kobolds and they begin firing flaming arrows into the tents. As the confusion begins, we attack. The orcs from the nearby guard tent move to defent and we fly into them, swords raised. As we are fighting, we all hear strange chanting emanating from the necromancer’s tent. Eilenos recognizes that it is a very powerful spell that is being cast; the sorcerer is creating an abomination, a four-armed undead behemoth with bone scythes protruding from its appendages. It bursts from the tent and charges at us, frothing. Eilenos turns and casts a spell at the creature, and it flees in the other direction briefly. It then turns back around towards the party as the spell is broken by the necromancer.

Sarthisis calls a fire elemental and it begins to burn the necromancer’s tent. A few more undead emerge as the tent starts aflame. Eilenos chants a spell to protect himself from undead and charges towards the tent. He attacks the necromancer and Sarthisis’ elemental burns him badly. Soon he is destroyed and his minions as well.

Eilenos cuts the head off of the necromancer and Sarthisis searches through his belongings. He has special armor with many pouches of magical herbs, and also a magic staff, as well as 200 gold. Sarthisis takes the staff after Eilenos determines that it is not evil. The lizard feels that his magical power has been expanded.

We move on towards the leader’s tent and further destruction.
